A 20-year-old rookie could provide the ultimate boost needed by the Detroit Red Wings to reach the playoffs this season.

There were a few roster spots available in Detroit entering training camp, including the right-winger spot on the top line alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond.
During the summer, General Manager of the Wings Steve Yzerman signed the veteran James van Riemsdyk to add a touch of offensive depth to the lineup.
Many believed he would get a shot on the top line, and he is still expected to play games in that spot, but the player missed the whole training camp so far, and another candidate could grab the occasion to steal his spot.
Indeed, in a new report, a suggestion was made to complete the top line.

20-Year-Old Rookie Could Push The Wings To The Playoffs

As we get closer to the end of the preseason and the start of the regular season, a player emerged as a potential candidate for the job
:Emmitt Finnie.
The 20-year-old forward, acquired by the Wings in the seventh round during the 2023 draft in Nashville, could be the missing piece of the puzzle in Detroit.
He has shown great chemistry with Larkin and Raymond, but also works hard enough to keep his top-six role.
In addition, he has great offensive potential, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him among the top rookies for points if he makes the lineup.
Of course, there's a risk in putting a rookie on a top line against the opposing team's top players.
If that works, the bet could bring a massive payback to the Red Wings, and if not, van Riemsdyk is likely to get a shot at some point in the season as well.
The Wings would extend the longest playoff drought in their history by missing the playoffs once again this year. Finnie could be an X-factor for the team, and fans are hoping that he will be able to help the team get to the next step.
