Defenseman requests trade and it's now the Red Wings' time to capitalize on a Senators mistake

The Detroit Red Wings have the opportunity to acquire a disgruntled Ottawa Senators defenseman to bolster their blue line unit.
He tallied eight points in his first nine NHL games, and he appears to be on his way to becoming a great top-six NHL forward.
Unfortunately, that's not the case for most seventh-round picks.
In Ottawa, a player drafted in the final round of the 2019 draft with great potential hasn't been able to fully develop with the Senators and asked to be traded out of the organization in the offseason, which could potentially be of interest to Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings.
A Senators Defenseman Who Requested A Trade Could Be An Interesting Player To Target For The Red Wings
Maxence Guenette, the 187th overall pick at the 2019 NHL Draft, had limited opportunities to shine in the NHL.
In the past five seasons, the six-foot-one defenseman played eight NHL games and 246 AHL games, which eventually led to a trade request from the player's camp.
The Ottawa Senators' beat reporter Bruce Garrioch confirmed the news on X, adding that there are "hopes to have a resolution soon."
A fresh start is exactly what Guenette needs to get back his confidence and rhythm.
He showed great potential in the AHL with the Belleville Senators in the last two seasons.
In 2023-24, he scored 34 points, including seven goals, in 58 games. He played the same number of games in 2024-25 but scored 23 points, including nine goals.
I believe the Wings could get him for as cheap as a late-round draft pick. After all, the Sens aren't in a good position to ask for a significant return.
