Detroit Red Wings announce contract signing of the ideal forward for playoff hockey

The Detroit Red Wings have announced an official contract extension, though for a minor league player - Austin Watson has been brought back for another go-around.
While the Trade Deadline looms large, the Detroit Red Wings have taken care of a matter of internal business.
Forward Austin Watson, who has mostly played with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins this year, has been re-signed to a new contract. The deal is for a single year and is a 2-way contract.
Watson has played a pair of games for the Red Wings this year and has no points. He has 32 points (12G, 20A) in 52 games for the Griffins along with 94 PIM.
What will the Red Wings do at the Trade Deadline?
For the last several years, the Red Wings have decided to sell off assets at the Trade Deadline rather than attempt to buy for a postseason push.
Few Red Wings fans could forget the sight of captain Dylan Larkin on the verge of tears at the 2023 Trade Deadline after his good friend and linemate Tyler Bertuzzi was traded to the divisional foe Boston Bruins.
But with the Red Wings in the mix once again, does new coach Todd McLellan expect Yzerman to be active?
I know that he believes in this group and that he wants to do whatever he can to help this group. But the players that put the jerseys on have to get the job done. We aren't sitting in the coaches room; the players shouldn't be sitting in the locker room, thinking that the cavalry is coming. They've clearly shown to each other that they have the ability to win some games and string things out. A lot of things have to go right - they have to play well. But we have a lot of tools in that locker room right now.
