The Detroit Red Wings' 2023 1st-round pick, Nate Danielson, has had to make significant adjustments to find some regularity as a player in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Nate Danielson was selected in the 1st-round of the 2023 NHL Draft. The ninth overall pick has spent his first year in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins and has played his first 71 games as a professional hockey player
«My confidence has grown over the year, and I just feel a lot more comfortable from the start of the year until now,» Danielson said. «Overall, as the year went on, my game grew.»

Not only did he lead the Griffins in points this year, with 39 (12-27), but he's had to adjust to life both on and off the ice.
«The first two weekends here this season, those were a bit of an eye-opener for me,» Danielson recently discussed with DetroitRed Wings.com.

While he only played a few playoff games with the Griffins last season, this year was when he'd fully dip his toes in the water. He credited travelling as part of the reason he finally felt comfortable in his new role, as a rookie with the Griffins.
We had a road trip early on this season where I really felt like I started to find my game, play well and got comfortable with it all.»

He'd follow his successful year in the AHL with 39 points, and would play three Calder Cup games, and contribute a goal during the campaign.
His time with the Griffins this season would see him grow as a player fresh out of junior hockey and playing in the AHL, and learning how to translate his game and one day become an NHL player when the time is right.
His additional reps have helped him keep his two-hundred-foot game fresh, along with his efforts to continue his development and grow his hockey IQ.
Danielson's first season in the AHL has been all about tapping into the resources available on the ice to grow as a player, learning how to cope with a new life in the minors.
