The Detroit Red Wings have submitted an offer to bring forward Maxime Comtois back to the NHL, joining the Boston Bruins in the bidding war.

Selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Comtois debuted in 2018, becoming a reliable bottom-six forward.
Over five NHL seasons, he played 211 games, scoring 38 goals and tallying 49 assists for 87 points.
However, he failed to secure an NHL roster spot this season and decided to take his talents to Russia with Dynamo Moscow in the KHL.
Comtois rediscovered his form, tallying 21 goals, 29 assists, and 99 penalty minutes in 62 games.
NHL insider Daria Tuboltseva of RG.com reports that the Red Wings have extended an NHL contract offer to the Canadian forward.
«According to RG sources, Comtois has several NHL offers, including one from the Red Wings,» Tuboltseva noted. «A decision is expected in the coming months.» Dynamo Moscow also offered to retain him.

Comtois attributes his KHL stint to reigniting his passion for hockey.
«I felt like I got a second wind,» he said in a recent interview. «Hockey had become just a job in North America, but here, it became my passion again."

The 26-year old forward believes this renewed his love for the game and that it will set him up for a successful NHL return.
He would be a great, gritty, offensive, third-line player for the Red Wings.
This marks Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman's first submitted offer to a free agent this off-season. With a core led by Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond, Yzerman is focused on building a playoff-contending team.
Adding Comtois could bring the physical presence needed for a deep run.
