The Detroit Red Wings and Coach Todd McLellan need to dig in the last 14 games of the NHL season if they're to regain a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Red Wings have fourteen games left in the regular season and remain four points out of the second wild-card spot in the East held by the Montreal Canadiens.
With a record of 2-8-0 in their last ten, evidence suggests that the Red Wings haven't played well enough to hold on to win games from start to finish.
Defensive lapses have given way to teams decimating the early lead held by the team, and the team will have to figure out what's wrong on the blue line as their next foe will be the Vegas Golden Knights.
Petr Mrazek and the Red Wings held on to beat the Knights with a 3-0 shutout last week. But the question is can they replicate the performance when the Golden Knights are known for their offensive capabilities under Bruce Cassidy?
A regulation win could give the Wings a shot at the Montreal Canadiens spot in the East, putting them effectively at 72 points.
While Martin St. Louis' Canadiens lead is flimsy at best, as the Eastern Conference is heating up.
The New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Rangers are three teams the Wings will have to contend with to even be a fringe playoff contender at this point in the season.
That's not to say the Red Wings don't have their own weapons, as they have three-time Stanley Cup winner Patrick Kane in the fold.
Kane has scored 46 points (17 G, 29 A) in 58 games wearing the winged wheel.
His teammates Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin are consistent contributors to the team's otherwise lacking offense.
It will require an effort top-down, and bottom-up for the Wings to take down one of the top teams in the league, and they could do it again if they can will it.
