The Red Wings, who know they must make improvements in their defensive play and goaltending, could try and sign a standout goalie from Czechia.

The defensive play and goaltending of the Red Wings wasn't up to standard this year, contributing as much as anything to their missing the postseason for the 9th straight year (and 6th in a row under GM Steve Yzerman).
Yzerman is soon going to be feeling some considerable pressure to get the Red Wings back to the postseason and break their drought, which is now the longest in team history.
They have both Cam Talbot and Petr Mrazek under contract for next year, while Alex Lyon isn't likely to be back. Despite Sebastian Cossa continuing to season in the AHL, the Red Wings have been linked to standout Swedish goaltender Arvid Holm and are now potentially considering Michal Postava.
Postava went 23-18-0 with a 2.39 GAA and .920 SV% this season with Kometa Brno of the Czech Extraliga; he then led them to the Czech Extraliga championship.
Per the Czech site isport.blesk.cz, the Red Wings are one of many teams showing interest in Postava.
There are more applicants for his services overseas, and he could reportedly head to Detroit. The Edmonton Oilers and Utah Mammoth were (are) also in the game.

Yzerman stated bluntly that the Red Wings need better play out of their goaltenders for next season.
We need the goalies to stop the puck more. Overall I think as a team our save percentage percentage was near the bottom third of the league, 22nd or somewhere rough in there.

We need to improve that. And that's, I'm not trying to be sarcastic, why we've got to get better goaltending. Whether that's with Petr Mrazek, Cam (Talbot) and or Alex (Lyon), or we go out and do something, we'll look to upgrade that position.
