Detroit Red Wings' Prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka Sets Major SHL Playoff Record
Detroit Red Wings prospect Axel Sandin-Pellikka, who was taken 17th overall by Detroit in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, has set another record while playing in the SHL.
Detroit Red Wings fans are naturally excited about the intriguing possibility of prospect defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka potentially joining the club for next year.
One of the most highly regarded defensemen in the pipelines in recent memory, Sandin-Pellikka was Detroit's 17th overall selection in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and currently plays for Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Hockey League.
And he's got himself yet another major accolade in his career before he even makes the jump to North America.
The latest feat has arrived during the SHL playoffs. Earlier on Friday, Sandin Pellikka scored his 12th point of the playoffs. That set a record for the most points ever scored by a defender who is 20 or younger in the SHL playoffs.
Axel Sandin-Pellikka captained Sweden during the World Junior Championships
Not only did Sandin-Pellikka captain Team Sweden in the IIHF World Junior Championship that took place earlier in the year, but he was also declared as the
top defenseman in the SHL.The comments were made by Swedish national team coach Sam Hallam.
He has basically been the SHL's best offensive defenseman.
He just keeps taking steps, he's never satisfied. We felt we really wanted to test him at this level.
It's a step up. I'm absolutely convinced he has the puck game in him. Then it'll be fun to see him in the game without the puck here, too.
