The Detroit Red Wings appear to have an odd man out of their current goaltending equation after the acquisition of John Gibson this summer, as rumors start to swirl involving a 6-foot-7 beast in the crease.

According to Heavy.com, the Red Wings are linked to sending a goaltender packing to their divisional rivals.
After acquiring their number-one goaltender in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks this summer, there are now multiple faces looking on the outside.
Including prominent prospects.

Florida Panthers acquire Red Wings prospect Sebastian Cossa in intriguing trade proposal

Detroit's prospect pipeline in the crease is overflowing, with names like Sebastian Cossa, Trey Augustine, and even a recent signing of a championship-winning goalie, further proving that one of the two initially stated is set to be dealt by the team.
That's where the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, step in, according to analyst Rob Couch:
«The Florida Panthers will have to find a replacement in net pretty soon if they want to extend their Stanley Cup window as well,» Couch wrote. «After going to three consecutive finals and winning the last two, Sergei Bobrovsky may not have many more seasons left in him. He is heading into the final year of his deal at $10 million AAV."

The organization has Daniil Tarasov, Brandon Bussi, and Cooper Black. But there's no certainty any of them can be more than a backup,» Couch added. «It appears as though Cossa has the highest potential by a lot. And, there's no cap space to use any first-round pick to acquire major upgrades at the trade deadline. So why not invest in the near future?»

A former 15th overall pick in 2021, Cossa has remained on the outside and has not been given a proper opportunity to grow his game with the organization.
Perhaps a trade would benefit both sides while clearing up the goaltending situation in Detroit.
Sergei Bobrovsky, the Panthers' current number-one in net is nearing his final season of a seven-year, $70M deal, and is soon to be 37.
