Former Detroit Red Wings enforcer Todd Bertuzzi has officially come out of retirement to play hockey again, signing with the Cambridge Hornets.

This comes just three months after landing a coaching gig with the Cambridge RedHawks, which clearly ignited the 18-year National Hockey League veteran's love for the game.
In a small local barn Cambridge, the Galt Arena Gardens is set to erupt when Bertuzzi makes his debut next season.
At 50 years of age, he played 1,159 games in the NHL, tallying up 314 goals and 456 assists for 770 points with the Detroit Red Wings, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames
Bertuzzi played in the NHL All-Star game in 2003 and 2004.

Bertuzzi was coaching in April

"Having a household NHL name makes people pay attention," Eric Boissonneault, co-owner of the RedHawks, said back in May.

His passion for the game and his excitement to be here coaching is contagious. Players will want to play for him. And then you add his experience and knowledge in the game and you get a recipe for success."

Now the local Hornets plan to draw a similar reaction in hopes to fill their barn with the signing of Bertuzzi.
Rob McIntosh, the co-owner and team president of the Hornets and the RedHawks, shared the following statement:
«Our ownership group has enjoyed a fantastic first year in Cambridge with the Redhawks and we are excited to bring back the Cambridge Hornets to the city," McIntosh said.

"We love how involved the community is in support of their teams and there is a long history of support for the Cambridge Hornets. That history is on full display all throughout the Galt Arena Gardens and we can't wait to add to that moving forward with both the Redhawks and the Hornets."

Who would've thought Bertuzzi would be lacing them up once again, at 50 years of age?
