The Detroit Red Wings are poised to make a huge signing now that the MSU lost to Cornell 4-3 in the NCAA tournament, 1st-round pick Trey Augustine is headed to Detroit.

Trey Augustine is a South Lyon, MI native and was a Detroit Red Wings pick 41st overall in the 2nd round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
The last two seasons of his career were played in the NCAA with the Michigan State Spartans, ending this season with a record of 19-7-4, 2.08 GAA, and a .924 save percentage.
An improvement upon his .908 save percentage from last season. Promising numbers for a soon to be Red Wings rookie.
Despite that you can't win them all, and with MSU's disappointing loss to Cornell, it has proven to be Detroit's gain.
According to Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now, due to the Spartans' loss to #16 Cornell in the tournament, the Red Wings will sign Augustine.
While we're unsure whether or not he'd slot in with the big club, he could find himself in a Grand Rapids Griffin's uniform soon enough.
Playing time in the minors is better than sitting on a bench somewhere, especially as one of the best goalie prospects in the NHL.
Last month, TSN's Craig Button selected him as the No. 20 affiliated prospect in his annual rankings.

Projections and

Augustine's projections, according to Last Word On Sports were comparable to Juuse Saros. Needless to say, they think he'll end up being a starter in the NHL.
His movements and the great butterfly are especially promising and with his style counteracts his size is similar to Juuse Saros. To reach Saros' level, Augustine has a lot of work ahead, but he has the potential of an NHL starter.

The Red Wings' goalie pipeline was looking very thin until recently, and now with the arrival of Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine, things are looking up for the winged wheel once more.
