Michigan Wolverines stud joins the Red Wings organization on a professional tryout offer
The Detroit Red Wings are growing as an organization, and the need for prospects increases, so the team has offered a professional tryout to former Michigan Wolverine stud Nolan Moyle.
He'll be joining the Red Wings' depth and prospect pipeline in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The right-wing forward will join an organization that is currently fast-tracking some of its prospects into positions in the Red Wings lineup, making spots for other players who could fill depth in the AHL.
And the former Wolverine, Moyle, could fulfill that purpose, as last season he played with the ECHL's Toledo Walleyes for 32 games and scored 15 points (6-9).
Following it up this season, with 7 games played for the ECHL club, he scored 8 points (4-4).
The Detroit Red Wings sign former Michigan Wolverines Captain Nolan Moyle
He won a title in the Big Ten in 2021-22 and 2022-23, finishing his career in the NCAA with 46 points, 156 penalty minutes, and a plus-15 rating in 164 games.
The 26-year-old forward has experience playing in the ECHL and abroad, where he played in the KHL with the Kunlun Red Star (now Shanghai Dragons), scoring 2 points (1-1) in 12 games before he returned to Toledo.
This could be a turning point for Moyle, who will have a chance to play for his hometown team, the Red Wings, in a future setting should his opportunity come into play.
