Sunday's Madison Square Garden showdown between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers ended in the most Original Six way possible with a bench-clearing brawl at the final buzzer.

The brawl at the final buzzer was certainly plenty of built up anger caused by poor calls by on-ice officials, such as this penalty call that favored the Red Wings and caused anger among the New York Rangers broadcasters in the booth.
According to Rangers backup goaltender Jonathan Quick, who was between the pipes and sparked the brawl as he went after Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, his frustrations sparked from the empty net shot Mason Appleton took after the buzzer.
In my opinion, Appleton's shot on the empty net came while the buzzer was sounding, but who am I to say, right?
«The horn goes, couple seconds (pass), and (Appleton) shoots it in the net. «I don't know why they were surprised. That's usually the response when something like that happens.»

Quick also confirmed out earlier statement of the on-ice officials blunder of calls, including missed calls throughout the night, leading to his anger.
«You're getting tripped in your crease,» he said. «That's supposed to be a whistle right away. It's tough enough killing a penalty as is. When you've got guys in the crease tripping you, it makes it more difficult.»

NHL announces if there will be discipline for Red Wings-Rangers after buzzer-beater brawl Sunday

According to Rangers reporter Peter Baugh of The Athletic, the NHL has made their verdict.
There will be no discipline to either team for the brawl that took place, Baugh was told.
"The benches clearing at the end of Rangers-Red Wings game won't result in any hearings from the Department of Player Safety, I'm told.

- Peter Baugh
The brawl mirrored old-time hockey between the two teams and capped off a beautiful game for the Red Wings, which featured Lucas Raymond burying a gorgeous game-winning goal in the third period.
