The hockey community is in mourning, as we lament to announce the passing of beloved reporter Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

The New York Rangers announced Larry Brooks' passing today, at the age of 75.
Brooks covered the NHL and the Rangers for nearly 40 years and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
The Hall of Fame writer succumbed to his battle with cancer, as reported today on NHL.com:
"Larry Brooks, a Hockey Hall of Fame Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award recipient, will long be remembered in the hockey world for his insightful analysis not only of the New York Rangers but the entire NHL, both on and off the ice," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement. "Larry's love of hockey was evident in his writing at the New York Post in two stints over nearly four decades. Larry didn't pull punches and when you read his work, you always knew where he stood. He was a staunch advocate for the players and for the reporters who cover the game.

"Larry also worked for a decade with the New Jersey Devils as a communications executive, drawing himself even closer to the game he dedicated his life to. On behalf of the National Hockey League, we mourn Larry's passing, and extend our sincere condolences to his son Jordan, daughter-in-law Joanna, his grandchildren, and all of his colleagues at the New York Post."

The New York Rangers issued a heartfelt statement on his passing today:

Beloved Hockey Reporter Larry Brooks Dies Age 75

The hockey community has experienced a huge loss with the passing of Larry Brooks. Not only for his soundbites he's provided or the lifelong storytelling through print we've been privileged to read, but people have lost a colleague, a family man, and a friend.
Brooks won the Elmer Ferguson Award in 2018 in addition to being inducted into the HHOF. The award is given to writers and voted on by the PWHA (Professional Hockey Writers Association).
"in recognition of distinguished members of the newspaper profession whose words have brought honor to journalism and to hockey."

Brooks' journey in hockey began with a job as a clerk with the New York Post in 1975, and his first assignment was covering the New York Islanders in 1976.
He'd be assigned to cover the Rangers during the 1978-79 season, when the team would make it to the Stanley Cup finals.
Brooks would accept a role in the New Jersey Devils front office as VP of Communications and return to cover the Rangers during the 1993 NHL season.
He would continue to cover the Rangers until the start of this season, when he'd leave the post on medical leave.
We send our deepest condolences to the Brooks family in this difficult time.
