The Detroit Red Wings have placed Michael Rasmussen on injured reserve, and in a corresponding move, they have activated Elmer Soderblom from IR.

While the Red Wings are 1st in the Atlantic Division, they need all the help they can get.
Thankfully they'll now receive the reinforcement of six-foot-eight forward Elmer Soderblom in their bottom six.
The former 6th-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2019 will have a chance to help defend home ice against the Predators.
Soderblom has played 11 games this season and scored 1 point in that timeframe.
The Red Wings placed him on the injured reserve three weeks ago, on November 9th, due to an undisclosed injury.
There remain questions about his injury status and whether or not it affected his production earlier in the year, with a point to his name.

Can the second half of 2025-26 be better for Elmer Soderblom?

Soderblom hasn't been able to provide the kind of production we saw last season. He scored 11 points (4-7) in 26 games last season and played as one of the better defensive forwards in 2024-25 with a 91.2% save percentage.
The team will be placing Michael Rasmussen on the injured reserve with his activation.
Rasmussen has been a disappointing forward in the lineup this season, scoring 5 points (2-3) in 19 games with the Detroit Red Wings.
Rasmussen is a remaining piece of Ken Holland's braintrust in Hockeytown and has seen his star wane as a former 1st-round pick.
This is just another name on the list of players who are out, as defenseman Simon Edvinsson is out with an illness.
