The Detroit Red Wings cling to the 1st spot in the Atlantic Division, while they've had to shoulder the burden of Patrick Kane's absence in the lineup, resulting in a major adjustment in personnel.

Patrick Kane signed a one-year deal with the Red Wings during the postseason and returned to Hockeytown with the intent of making the best of 2025-26.
However, since October 17th, he's been out of the lineup, missing in action after crashing into the boards behind the net.
With his latest injury update, Max Bultman of The Athletic revealed crushing news that he wouldn't be traveling on the road trip with the team.
With his absence, the team has had to balance a lineup without the 59-point forward, and he's missed the past five Red Wings games.
They have maintained their top spot in the division despite all of this, but it is challenging for the team while Todd McLellan has to make the right personnel decision nightly.
There's one red flag:
"The Red Wings have gone 6-2-0 since Kane's injury, an impressive mark at first glance. They've stayed very competitive and avoided any major setbacks in the standings. However, when you look beyond the wins and losses, his absence is still noticeable."

What are the Detroit Red Wings missing in Patrick Kane's absence?

The team has failed to be as productive offensively in his absence. Which makes sense considering that before he was taken out of the lineup, he was a point-per-game player.
A prospect that forward Mason Appleton couldn't even fathom when it comes to filling Kane's shoes.
Kane, a 1,300-point forward in the NHL, has a special finishing capability that has been MIA while the team has failed to nail down victories against the 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres and a 7-2 blowout by the Patrick Roy-led Islanders.
The future Hall of Famer has shown the team has had to reframe expectations of fans, who have witnessed the team shift young players up and down the lineup but failed to replace his production (59 points) from last season.
