Red Wings goaltender emerging as a star following recent performances this past week
The Detroit Red Wings know how to draft talent, as goaltender Trey Augustine has earned the first star of the week in the Big Ten thanks to a shutout.
Trey Augustine was drafted 41st overall in the 2nd round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
The goaltender has emerged as a star with his recent performances in the Big Ten with the Michigan State Spartans.
In his fourth year with the team, he's proven himself as the perfect guardian of the crease. He made 60 saves last weekend and earned his third shutout of the season.
This season with the Spartans, his record is 6-1-0, with a 1.41 GAA and a .944 save percentage.
A great stat line for someone who's speculated to be the Red Wings' next starting goaltender.
"Technically sound and composed goaltender who is fluid in his movements. Will need to improve his tracking abilities but has the tools to become a quality NHL netminder."

The Spartans' backstop provided enough support to defeat the Nittany Lions 5-1 on Friday and 5-0 on Saturday, earning his third shutout of the year.
"Augustine held the Nittany Lions to just one goal over the weekend, stopping 60-of-61 shots he faced against the nation's sixth-best scoring offense and helped MSU go a perfect 9-for-9 on the penalty kill. Augustine's 0.49 goals against average and .984 save percentage over the weekend led all goaltenders in the NCAA."
Augustine has proven to be an elite goaltender at the NCAA level. We are excited to see how he performs when he turns professional.
The goaltending situation in the AHL should prove to be competitive real quick upon his arrival in Grand Rapids.
