NHL Insider Max Bultman of The Athletic has given us an idea of who could be the next Hall of Famer who wore a Detroit Red Wings jersey.
The Red Wings are a storied franchise in the NHL.
They have seen legends come and go and revolutionized hockey with the Russian Five.
One former Red Wings player whose name surprisingly doesn't come up in Hall of Fame talks a lot is forward Henrik Zetterberg.
Zetterberg was a 7th-round pick (210th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in 1999. He'd play his entire career wearing the winged wheel and could be the next player to be an HOFer.
The Swedish-born forward has won the Stanley Cup once in his career during the 2007-08 NHL season and has a total of 1,082 games played during his career, scoring 960 points (337-623).
Why Henrik Zetterberg belongs in the Hall of Fame
Zetterberg had five top-ten finishes in Selke Trophy voting, along with is lone Stanley Cup win.
In the years that spanned Zetterberg's career-2002 through 2018 - only five players had more points.
Which should be reason enough for him to be considered right? He's an elite two-way forward and was a part of a Red Wings team to made one last trip to the Finals and secured the hardware.
Well, there's always the doubters.
"McIndoe: I've always been a no on Zetterberg, but it's close. Put it this way: He's better than at least a few guys who are already in."
We tend to swing the pendulum towards the players who deserve a nod to this illustrious nomination of a spot in the Hall. This 7th-round pick deserves the honors he's worked hard to earn.
The 16-year career may not be chock full of cups, but he's done great enough in our opinion.
