A proposed trade pitch sees the Detroit Red Wings landing a center from the Nashville Predators, who could end up being an ideal target for Steve Yzerman.
"We wanted to see him now so we can make some decisions, perhaps on some other players. For him, for his first game, I thought he did some real good things on the ice."
Indeed, as one of the teams with the most cap space in the NHL, their great prospects and the holes in the lineup are likely to force Steve Yzerman to complete deals with other organizations.
A new report suggested that Yzerman and the Wings could go after the Nashville Predators' number one center on the trade market.
Steve Yzerman Targets Ryan O'Reilly In New Potential Trade Scenario
So far this season, O'Reilly has struggled. His recent comments highlight exactly that:
"For myself, No. 1 center, just turning the puck over. Can't make a six-foot pass to save my life. Not going to have much success if I'm playing pathetic like that. I don't know the answer. I've had one good year in my career."
"The last few games I've been making mistakes left and right that normally I don't do. Can't expect to win like that. It's frustration everywhere."
If the Predators consider trading him, the Wings could make an interesting offer. Still, per Heavy.com, Yzerman could ship
Jonatan Berggren,
Carter Mazur, and a 2026 second-round draft pick to Nashville in return for the veteran center:
"Red Wings Acquire:
Ryan O'Reilly
Predators Acquire:
Jonatan Berggren
Carter Mazur
2026 Second-Round Pick"
O'Reilly would benefit from a fresh start and would add considerable depth to the Wings' offensive group. Would you make that trade?
