The Grand Rapids Griffins organization announced a new acquisition after injuries to their two top goaltenders, including Detroit Red Wings prospect Sebastian Cossa.
After a historic start to the season in the American Hockey League, the Grand Rapids Griffins finally suffered their first loss of the season earlier this week against the Chicago Wolves.
Sebastian Cossa wasn't available for that game, as he got injured during a practice session, and Michal Postava had to leave the net less than 10 minutes after the start of the first period after getting injured.
The Griffins were back in action earlier today and announced that they had signed a goaltender to a PTO to fill in for the game.
Grand Rapids Griffins Announce Goalie Signing After Injuries to Cossa and Postava
Grand Rapids hosted the Toronto Marlies for their annual School Day Game, and they took the opportunity to return to the win column by beating the Maple Leafs' AHL affiliate 3-2 in overtime:
Before the start of the game, the organization announced that they had signed goalie Luke Pavicich to a professional tryout contract from the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL.
Pavicich is a 23-year-old goalie from New York who was never drafted in the NHL. He ended his collegiate career last season after five years in the NCAA, playing for UMass, UMass Lowell, and Arizona State.
In his four-year college career, the six-foot-two goalie had a 25-31-4 record, two shutouts, a 2.89 GAA, and a .908 SV% in 67 games.
This season, he took part in two games with the Kalamazoo Wings, tallying a 1-1 record, a 2.88 GAA, and a .902 SV%.
If Cossa and Postava remain unavailable due to injuries, Pavicich is likely to see some action at some point, although Gylander should play most games.
