Several Detroit Red Wings players have found themselves on the hot seat as head coach Todd McLellan singled out struggling members of the organization in a press conference.
If we've learned one thing about Todd McLellan since he became head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, it's that he isn't one to mince words about his team's performance.
He has often called out players or situations after losses, and right now, the Wings are in their longest losing streak of the season.
Yesterday, in a press conference, he shared his thoughts on a few players who have been underperforming.
Todd McLellan Calls Out Players Who Haven't Been Performing Well Enough So Far This Season in Press Conference
The Red Wings' offense hasn't been up to their own standards in recent weeks. The team has scored only two goals in their last three games, highlighting the massive lack of depth and momentum in the current lineup.
For a few players, their performances haven't been good enough since the start of the season.
Todd McLellan mentioned in a recent press conference that he gathered the struggling forwards together at practice and called them out:
«We're 20% done with the season and some of those players they're at one goal - and some of them are empty-net goals, too.
I asked some of them, 'When's the last time you had a tip or deflection in and around the paint, or had a rebound shot?'»
McLellan also shared his thoughts on Marco Kasper:
«Last year, the competitiveness and the second attempt, third attempt in and around the net, crashing the crease, solid two-way play, checking his way into offense - those were all staples of his game.
Well, he's not where he needs to be. You know, I could lie, but you guys would call me a liar right away. He's not where he needs to be. He's got some work to do.»
In the Atlantic Division, only the Buffalo Sabres (41) have scored fewer goals than the Red Wings (46) this year.
