Signing alert: Elliotte Friedman has revealed a signing by the Detroit Red Wings that's incoming

With Alex Lyon leaving the Red Wings as a pending UFA, GM Steve Yzerman will have to do more than rely on Petr Mrazek and Cam Talbot alone to guard the crease, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman believes they're on the hunt for help.
The Detroit Red Wings are in year six of their rebuild. The rebuild began as soon as Steve Yzerman found himself in a tough spot.
The Red Wings haven't made it to the playoffs for the last 9 nine years, six of those during his tenure.
This postseason, he'll have to dig deep and work the phones if he intends to improve the Red Wings' chances at a playoff run by improving in the net.
That is what NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting:
The team finished 22nd of 32 teams in the NHL in team save percentage, which saw goalie coach Alex Westlund fired.
«We need better goaltending, and that's not just on Alex Westlund,» McLellan said. «That's on the goaltenders, the head coach, and everybody else that's involved in it.»
In addition to firing Westlund, Yzerman could be on the hunt for veteran goaltending that delivers results, if we look at deals he's made recently.
We could speculate that he'd be in on someone like John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, who has put up stellar numbers behind terrible teams. This season, he finished with a record of 11-11-2, 2.73 GAA, and a .912 save percentage.
But there are younger UFAs available, including Vitek Vanacek, Jake Allen, and Arvid Soderblom.
It's difficult to tell where Yzerman's eyes are specifically, but we should know more as the draft arrives soon, typically it's where deals happen and future trades develop.
The Red Wings will need to improve soon, as nearly a decade out of the playoffs, Yzerman can't foul this offseason up.
