A player drafted by Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings at the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville is being deemed one of the League's biggest steals this season.

The Detroit Red Wings are currently in their toughest stretch of the season, after extending their losing streak to three games for the first time in 2025-26 yesterday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
What was seen in that stretch is that they simply haven't been great offensively.
Indeed, in their past six games, they scored only seven goals.
The first line, which generated a lot of offense earlier in the season, hasn't been able to produce much.
Rookie Emmitt Finnie hasn't added his name to the scoresheet for the past seven games, but in spite of this, he remains a steal by the Wings.

Emmitt Finnie Deemed As One Of The Biggest NHL Draft Steals This Season Despite Recent Tough Stretch

Although he hasn't scored since the game against the St-Louis Blues on October 25th, Finnie had an impressive start to his rookie season, scoring eight points, including four goals, in his first nine games, which is impressive for a seventh-round pick.
Recently, Finnie was even ranked by Daily Faceoff among the biggest late-round draft steals of the 2020s, alongside Devon Levi, Jackson Blake, Victor Mancini, and Vojtech Hradec.
Here's what they had to say about him in their scouting report:
"Finnie went from nearly getting passed over in 2023 to becoming a serious Calder Trophy candidate two years later.

A hot preseason thrust Finnie into full-time duty, skipping Grand Rapids altogether and earning him a spot in Detroit's top six. Finnie had eight points in October, putting him fourth in team scoring and fourth among all rookies, too.

A second-to-none work ethic and a boatload of confidence have made Finnie untouchable - there's no way they're sending him down to the AHL now."

The Red Wings' next matchup won't be an easy one, as the Anaheim Ducks, who are having their breakout season, will be in town.
Detroit will look to stop their winless streak at three games, as Finnie looks to break his seven-game pointless streak.
