The Red Wings are entering next season with lots of unanswered questioned regarding their blue line.

Given the current state of the Detroit Red Wings salary cap condition, there must be at least one defender who must move on in order to give general manager some breathing room in the teams budget. When analyzing which member of the blue line should go, Justin Holl makes the most sense.

"Holl has been the subject of buyout fodder from fans and media for much of the offseason just one year removed from his signing a three-year, $3.4 million UFA deal last free agent cycle. This move would create $1.133 million in dead cap space until 2027-28. He played just 38 games last season. Considering his small role, his cap hit is a bit unfriendly. There's always the option for the Red Wings to package futures to ship Holl off, though the sense of this has to depend on what the difference in cap space is worth for Detroit's next moves."

General manager Steve Yzerman should look to move Justin Holl as soon as possible. With all-star defensive prospect Simon Edvinsson set to make his NHL debut next season, the Red Wings should trade Holl while he still retains some value.
