Todd McLellan revealed in an interview that he asked goaltender Cam Talbot to help him with the power play ahead of Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks will be crucial for Todd McLellan and the Detroit Red Wings.
With a loss, the team could fall to seventh place in their division. For that to happen, both the Florida Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs would need to win-but it highlights how far the Wings have strayed from the strong play they showed at the start of the regular season.
Ahead of that must-win game, McLellan confirmed that John Gibson would get another opportunity to beat his former team.
Even if Cam Talbot won't be able to help his team win tonight, as he's set to watch the action from the bench, the veteran found a way to be of service.
Cam Talbot Assists Todd McLellan to Solve Power Play Issues
"It isn't always the coaching staff that can teach or bring up situations. Sometimes we ask the players that are actually playing.
We were in a situation there where let's ask Talbs what causes problems for goaltenders. And I think what Talbs had to say was very helpful.
They're the guys who wear the pads. They're the ones that have to fight through screens and reads and that type of stuff. Why wouldn't we ask them what causes problems?"
The Wings are currently 17th in the NHL with an 18.9% efficiency on the power play.
Fans are hoping to see results tonight on the ice against the Ducks.
