The Detroit Red Wings need secondary goal-scoring, and GM Steve Yzerman could look West to secure forward Mason Marchment, of the Dallas Stars, to improve the lineup.

The Detroit Red Wings need secondary scoring. As a team that hasn't been deep enough to secure a spot in the playoffs, they need to look outside of their conference for talent who could get them there.
That would be in the West, as the Dallas Stars are still in the hunt for a Stanley Cup. And one forward, GM Steve Yzerman should consider, is Mason Marchment.
Marchment would be another former Maple Leaf who got away from the organization, only to break out years later with the Florida Panthers under Andrew Brunette.
Since 2021-2022, he hasn't scored under 30 points in a season. He'd miss the Panthers' Stanley Cup run by two years but is still battling it out with the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.
The Red Wings could utilize his gritty style of play and his goal-scoring touch. Though the Wings may have to give up a prospect to acquire him.
Red Wings acquire:

Mason Marchment
Stars acquire:

Jonatan Berggren
2025 second-round pick

The Red Wings would add grit and skill down the middle, as Marchment has one year left on his 4-year, $18 million deal. Dallas could clear some cap space, add some draft capital, and acquire a younger forward who needs to develop further in the NHL.
Berggren would get a fresh start in Dallas and be a bargain addition ($825K) for a deep Dallas team. He could find a spot on the third line and find his game under the tutelage of Peter DeBoer.
While the Red Wings would add an immediate impact if GM Steve Yzerman feels Marchment is worth it.
«It is also worth mentioning that Berggren may be a trade piece for the Red Wings this offseason,» Dykowski wrote. «Despite his poor season, Berggren is still an intriguing prospect, and Steve Yzerman could leverage that in a potential deal.

The Red Wings' prospect pipeline is deep enough that they could afford to move someone like Berggren, considering there's Nate Danielson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Carter Mazur in the organization.`
