The Americans are getting a major reinforcement for Thursday's showdown against Canada, as Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes is on his way.

The Americans lost a major piece of their lineup with the injury to defenseman Charlie McAvoy, who was recently admitted to a Boston hospital with an upper body injury.
And ahead of Thursday's showdown against Canada in a rematch of last Saturday night, a major reinforcement is on the way.
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes has joined the team:
However, his place in the lineup isn't a given, as he'll be unable to play unless another injury occurs between now and Thursday.
Hughes is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he played before being selected one pick after Filip Zadina in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Zadina went on to be one of the all-time busts for the Red Wings, while Hughes is one of the best defensemen in the NHL and also won the Norris Trophy last year as the top blue liner.
In the meantime, McAvoy is nothing less than disappointed that he won't be able to play on Thursday, according to coach Mike Sullivan.
He's obviously disappointed that he won't have the ability to participate in the championship game. This tournament means a lot to him. He's a very competitive guy. Obviously, there's a personal note with respect to my relationship with him, and I'm disappointed for him because first and foremost he's a great kid and he's a terrific hockey player, and I know this meant a lot to him.

So under all the circumstances, he's in good spirits. I know he's disappointed. He wanted the opportunity to compete in the championship game.
