The Americans may have more than one secret weapon for tomorrow's 4 Nations Faceoff title game against Canada after the injury to Charlie McAvoy.
The Americans are likely to be shorthanded for tomorrow night's 4 Nations Faceoff title game against Canada, as defenseman
Charlie McAvoy has recently been hospitalized.
While Vancouver Canucks defenseman
Quinn Hughes was reportedly on standby to join them in Boston, it turns out that he won't be available to play after all.
But in the meantime, the Americans have reportedly been in contact with a pair of players who could potentially be available, though there's a catch.
However, Thompson will only be allowed to play if the Americans have less than 12 healthy forwards available, and Pesce will only be able to play if they have less than 6 healthy defensemen available to them by the time the 8:00 PM puck drop occurs.
Hearing Team USA 🇺🇸 has invited #njdevils D Brett Pesce and #sabres C Tage Thompson to travel to Boston as insurance for potential illness / injury replacements ahead of clash versus Canada. USA would need to drop below roster minimum thresholds for either to enter lineup.
Thompson has 48 points (26G, 22A) in 48 games for the Sabres, while Pesce has 11 points (1G, 10A) in 48 games.
