CapFriendly, a popular NHL salary information website, was shut down to the public on Wednesday. After nine years of diligent work, the site's team decided to move on to new challenges. To keep the site updated, they missed holidays and family events.
The Washington Capitals purchased CapFriendly in mid-June, confirmed by GM Brian MacLellan. The site remained operational through the NHL Draft and the start of free agency before closing. Capitals assistant GM Don Fishman, an expert in managing the salary cap, played a key role in this acquisition.
MacLellan stated that the purchase would enhance the Capitals' ability to analyze internal and league data, strengthening their hockey operations, including management, scouting, analytics, and player development. The Capitals plan to integrate CapFriendly's team—Jamie, Ryan, and Christopher Davis—into their front office, giving them a significant competitive advantage.
