Mark Giordano, the veteran defenseman soon to turn 41, remains an unrestricted free agent as the 2024-25 NHL season approaches.
Despite a quiet offseason and a career-low 9 points in 46 games last season, Giordano has confirmed his intention to continue playing, potentially for a few more years.
His agent, Rich Winter, stated:
"Mark has made the decision that he's playing for a few more years. He feels very confident. He's been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don't quit until they make you."
Known as the NHL's all-time shot-blocking leader, Mark Giordano's passion and commitment to the game are evident. However, with teams yet to show strong interest, he might sign a professional tryout (PTO) to prove his worth. Given the Toronto Maple Leafs' defensive additions this summer, it's unlikely he'll return to Toronto.
If he does, it would likely be a reduced role as a #7 or #8 defenseman. Giordano's experience and leadership remain valuable assets as he seeks a new home for the upcoming season.
