NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed the next head coach to be fired
The New York Islanders appear to be cleaning house as they rid themselves of Lou Lamoriello and could upend Patrick Roy's short tenure on Long Island, according to Elliotte Friedman.
The New York
Islanders have made a stunning decision to let former GM Lou Lamoriello walk this week as they decided against renewing his contract.
However, they may not be done yet after missing the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.
According to
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, newly hired Head Coach Patrick Roy could be on the hot seat.
Fans across the NHL may be rejoicing, in what some could consider another piece of the old guard in the league gone. But for Islanders fans, they may be considering what could happen to Coach Patrick Roy.
Roy has only been the Coach of the Islanders this season after taking over from Lane Lambert.
This season, Roy oversaw the team for 82 games and produced a 35-35-12 record with a .500 winning percentage. Considering the lineup Lamoriello gave him, it's surprising it wasn't worse.
But as far as his future with the team goes, it could be up to the next GM and Roy to decide the future of his job on Long Island.
Roy's record with the Islanders isn't terrible, but it isn't great either, with a total of 55-47-17 and a .534 winning percentage.
He had to deal with the burden of expectations from both the fans and the front office, and failed to deliver the kind of performance they had hoped for this season.
A rough start for his first 119 games with the franchise.
He will have to convince the next GM that the investment in his tenure and the team is worth it. Considering Lou's conservative moves over the last six years, they'll need a new path entirely to dig themselves out of the hole they've been in since Barry Trotz left.
