Terrifying scene delays Oilers-Flames game after a fan suffers medical emergency in stands
In a game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames on Saturday night at Rogers Place, a fan suffered a terrifying injury that resulted in the game being delayed.
It's not often you hear the home arena of the Edmonton Oilers, Rogers Place, be straight silent for a long period of time, but that happened on Saturday night after a distraught scene in the crowd just moments after the puck dropped between the
Oilers and Flames.
Medical emerges delays Oilers-Flames game Saturday
Players and both fans went silent as a fan was in need of medical attention, in a moment that was much bigger than hockey.
According to Bob Mackin of The Breaker News, a fan behind the Calgary Flames' bench collapsed, and suffered a heart attack while walking down the stairs to his seat.
This caused a large and worrisome delay in the game, as ambulances rushed to the arena.
According to
Sportsnet, the team was unable to provide a medical update on the collapsed fan.
Each NHL organization is required to have an ambulance in the arena at all times, and as the Edmonton Oilers' medical team left the arena with the collapsed fan, the game was unable to resume until a new ambulance arrived.
Both the Flames and Oilers took a knee, showing distress on their face as they tried to not look at the ongoing medical attention being given to the fan behind the Flames' bench.
It was quite the
scary scene for fans and players in the arena, and we only hope the best outcome took place for the male who collapsed.
Us at RedWingsInsider send our best wishes as we await an update on the fans condition.
