Former Detroit Red Wings fan favorite has officially signed a new contract
Former Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana, who was once thought of as being a solution to their goal scoring problems, appears to be heading back overseas.
The Red Wings appeared to have solved their goal scoring issues, picking up Jakub Vrana from the Washington Capitals at the 2021 Trade Deadline and sending the underachieving
Anthony Mantha back to Washington in return.
Despite a fast start with the Red Wings, things didn't work out for him there in the long run. After a pair of stints with the St. Louis Blues, the Capitals again, and the Nashville Predators, Vrana's run in the NHL appears to be over.
It looks like he's on the verge of returning to his native Czechia to play for Hockey Club Sparta Praha in the Czech Extraliga.
According to information @DenikSport striker Jakub Vrána could strengthen Sparta! The 29-year-old Letňan graduate should continue his career in Europe, and Sparta is very interested in him. Vrána played last season in Nashville, where he was traded from Washington.
Vrana immediately started filling the opposition net with pucks for the rest of the 2021 season, which began in January due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But he injured his shoulder on literally his 1st shift in training camp in the fall, and missed 3/4 of 2022-23.
Vrana took a leave of absence just 2 games into 2022-23 and was placed in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program; upon his return,
he played sparingly for the Red Wings and was traded to the Blues.
In his NHL career, Vrana had 223 points (119G, 104A). He also helped the Capitals win the Stanley Cup in 2018.
