The New York Rangers traded captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks this afternoon for a depth defenseman and a 4th round draft pick.
The writing was on the wall of an imminent trade (or being put on waivers) when it was revealed this morning that Trouba would not be in New York's lineup for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
And for the second time this year, Trouba was linked to his home state of Michigan.
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman reportedly was eyeing Trouba once again, but but couldn't come to terms on an agreeable trade with Rangers general manager Chris Drury, per ESPN's Emily Kaplan.
Instead, Trouba is now with the rebuilding Anaheim Ducks; he'll face the Red Wings with Anaheim on February 23 at Little Caesars Arena.
It looks as though this is the second time that the Red Wings have missed out on acquiring Trouba.
Multiple reports surfaced over the summer that Detroit was interested in trading for the Rangers captain, but he invoked his no-trade clause in order to not be separated from his wife, a physician with a residency at a local New York hospital.
