The trade completed between the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks finally appears to have a winner.

During the postseason, the Detroit Red Wings decided to bolster their net with an unstable three-goalie system consisting of Alex Lyon, Ville Husso, and Petr Mrazek.
In the trade for Mrazek, the team would receive veteran goaltender John Gibson in return. It appears that there's been one clear winner in this trade, as the Red Wings have finally begun to see results from Gibson.
Initially beginning the year as a liability for the Original Six team, he's stepped up to deliver stellar performances in the last five of his six outings. In the last six games as a Red Wings goaltender, he's stopped 157 of 167 shots against and has a .940 save percentage. He'd only allow 10 goals in that stretch.
This is welcome news for a team that needed consistency and reliability in the crease, as Gibson has improved his overall record to 9-7-1, a 3.13 goals-against average, and a .890 save percentage.
If he continues playing as he does, the Red Wings should continue to climb the rankings in the Atlantic as a team that is a future contender.

The Detroit Red Wings appeared to have won the trade for veteran goaltender John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks

Gibson was acquired in trade from the Anaheim Ducks for Petr Mrazek and two draft picks at the start of free agency on July 1st, 2025.
While the Czech-born goaltender who held up the foundation in Chicago too long appears to have broken in Anaheim.
This season, he has a 3-3-0 record with the Ducks under Coach Joel Quenneville, with a 3.69 GAA and a .876 save percentage.
While not ideal stat-wise, he's hushed Red Wings critics again this week.
It appears that the Red Wings have come out of this trade on top decisively, as the team needs John Gibson to excel in order to make it to the playoffs.
