It seems like the Buffalo Sabers have their eyes set on landing NHL superstar Patrick Kane this off season.

Although the fit would be ideal for Kane and the Sabers franchise in many respects, sources are speculating that the odds of Kane going to Buffalo are unlikely.

Let's break down some of the key factors that would make Buffalo an ideal fit for Kane. First and foremost, Kane is a native Buffalo kid, so the prospect of moving to his hometown is an ideal fit to consider as he will be closer to friends and family. Secondly, the Sabers have more than $8 million of free cap space. With plenty of room to make a deal, Sabers management has plenty of room to negotiate a blockbuster deal that would see the 36-year-old enticed with a massive pay day. Lastly, the Sabers have plenty of young exciting prospects which the likes of a veteran presence like Kane would be beneficial for their development.

Although the fit seems perfect, many sources are speculating that the acquisition of Kane from the Sabers is not happening. The Detroit Red Wings are currently in the process of vacating space on their roster by opting out to re-sign some key prospects. Jan Bednar, center Theodor Niederbach and defenseman Tnias Mathurin are rumoured to be on the chopping block. This could potentially signify that Steve Yzerman is making room for some much needed cap space to bring Kane back to Detroit.
