He received calls from Nashville GM Barry Trotz and Detroit GM Steve Yzerman, who welcomed him to his new team.
In addition to adjusting to the trade, Jesse Kiiskinen spent time training with the Finnish army, a mandatory service for all Finns, which prevented him from attending the Red Wings development camp. Now that his military service is complete, Kiiskinen is focusing on hockey and currently leading Finland's national junior team at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth.
Kiiskinen, drafted 68th overall in 2023, is also set to play for HPK Hameenlinna in Finland's SM-liiga this fall after playing for the Pelicans last season. He believes playing against men will aid his transition to North American hockey. Despite the busy summer, Kiiskinen is excited for the future and proud to captain Finland's national team.
