Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is trending on social media for all the wrong reasons
While the criticism toward Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde has never been louder, some frustrated fans are turning their attention to GM Steve Yzerman.
The Detroit Red Wings have suffered consecutive losses to the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens, who have now leapfrogged them in the Atlantic Division standings.
The Red Wings failed to protect their 3rd period lead on Friday night at Little Caesars Arena. And while they scored first on Saturday night, the Canadiens responded with five unanswered goals.
Goaltender Alex Lyon continues to perform at a subpar level since his return to the lineup, allowing multiple soft goals.
But while calls for coach Derek Lalonde's job have never been louder, a growing number of frustrated Red Wings fans began turning their attention toward GM Steve Yzerman on social media.
Fans need to chant fire Yzerman next home game instead of Jared Goff. Dead serious
Yzerman needs to relieve Lalonde ASAP. If not, maybe it's it's Yzerman who should be relieved of his duties.
as i have said here, it is more yzerman's fault.
but, at this point, the on ice performance is abysmal, and the head coach has not marshaled ANY improvement in key areas.
I would term the last offseason of work by the Red Wings an unmitigated disaster that would have resulted in anyone except Steve Yzerman being fired..
Steve Yzerman is literally my sports idol. I wish he never would have been hired as the GM.
Remember when Steve Yzerman left TB and we all thought he was a genius and one of the best GMs in hockey? Feels like his time in Detroit has ruined that reputation and even flipped it, he has made a lot of questionable choices that have led to where Detroit is at now.
It seems clear that the number of fans who fiercely defend the Hockeytown icon with a litany of excuses, calls for further patience, and blaming outside factors is growing smaller.
