Mickey Redmond left emotional after classy gesture by Detroit Red Wings right before his leave of absence
The Detroit Red Wings issued a message on Sunday that stunned some fans, revealing that beloved analyst and TV broadcaster Mickey Redmond would be stepping away from the team due to having a medical procedure performed.
Mickey Redmond has been dealing with neck issues for quite some time and, as a result, will require a cervical spine fusion to fully resolve the problems.
Mickey's surgery will take place in roughly one week, and his recovery will take him away from the Red Wings broadcast booth until after the National Hockey League's Olympic break.
The Red Wings, alongside fans on social media, poured their heart out in wishing Redmond the best throughout his upcoming procedure.
"Statement from the Detroit Red Wings
Mickey has the support of his Red Wings family, and we appreciate that he's prioritizing health. Mickey decided to wait on having this procedure until a time that was best for the broadcast, for the team, and ultimately for the fans - a great example of what an incredible teammate he is both on and off the air. Everyone in the organization will keep him in our thoughts and will do anything needed to support his recovery."

Red Wings win vs. Senators for Mickey Redmond's last game before procedure
The Red Wings and Alex DeBrincat pulled through with a hard-fought win by a score of 4-3 against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, but the highlight of the game was certainly not seen yet.
But rather when players were exiting the ice.
Many players made it a point to go over and see Redmond, with captain Dylan Larkin leading charge.
"Dylan Larkin, Patrick Kane, and Cam Talbot all took time to give Mickey Redmond their best wishes as he is stepping away from broadcasts for a while to undergo a medical procedure"
Such a beautiful moment that really shows the true bond this hockey city has.
