While this may have been a player that the Detroit Red Wings could have considered to acquire via trade, recent developments have now made that essentially impossible.
As the Detroit Red Wings prepare to take on the divisional foe Ottawa Senators for the first time this year, a potential trade target of theirs has suddenly become unavailable.
Ducks forward Trevor Zegras, who has struggled to replicate his past offensive production and has been ranked highly on mock trade charts, left last night's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
He fell to the ice awkwardly and was unable to put any weight on his leg and needed help to make his way back to the bench and dressing room.
The prevailing fear is that he may have suffered a significant lower-body injury, such as a torn ACL.
Coach Greg Cronin didn't have an update on Zegras' condition, instead saying that he'll be undergoing further testing today.
Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler spoke of his teammate as if he wasn't going to be coming back to the ice any time soon.

While the Red Wings were included in lists of teams who could show potential interest in Zegras, this major setback has all but cancelled any chance of his playing in Hockeytown for now.
