The Detroit Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman have made a major announcement regarding their Centennial Season at Little Caesar's Arena.
The
Detroit Red Wings are one of the NHL's original six teams. Originally founded as the Detroit Cougars, they were originally established in Vancouver, BC.
But they'd eventually find their way to the motor city in 1926, where they have resided since, even going through a small name change in the process.
During the fall of 1926, the Cougars' home arena was in Windsor, Canada. In 1927, Jack Adams joined the team as their general manager and coach and the Cougars moved to Olympia Stadium in fall of that year. The next season (1928-1929), the Detroit Cougars made the NHL playoffs for the first time.
Now on the cusp of their Centennial Season, the Red Wings will look to pull out all of the stops as this year, will be special for not only the team, but for the NHL and fans as well.
It was reported today on "X" that the team would be opening up access to special events for this year's Centennial Celebration.
There's been nothing major announced yet, but we expect the team to go all out considering they've been around for 100-years now, as of May, 2026.
Other teams before them have given us new uniforms to appreciate on the ice, and to own at home if we look back to the Bruins in recent years.
We should expect at least that and more for the team that has won their fair share of Stanley Cups, and has had legend upon legend on their roster.
The Red Wings have won a total of eleven Stanley Cups in their one-hundred-year history, and if GM Steve Yzerman does his job right, maybe the 12th will be on the way soon.
