Detroit Red Wings prospect earns more more hardware with a major honoring

Axel Sandin-Pellikka didn't make noise just by making the jump from Sweden to North America by beginning his professional hockey career.

He won a piece of hardware from Elite Prospects, which gave him the "Elite Prospects Award" as the top junior player in Sweden with Skelleftea AIK, scoring 29 points (12-17) in 46 games.

The award itself has been given out since 2013, and is coordinated with hockeysverige.se. Sandin-Pellikka would receive it as the best-performing junior player in the SHL.

He'd receive the highest score from the selection committee.

He'd earn his accolades by setting records as a defenseman in the SHL, with most goals by a junior defenseman in a single season (12), most career goals by a junior defenseman (24), and most career playoff points (15).

After Skelleftea's season ended in the SHL, he'd make the leap to Grand Rapids and find himself in more playoff action with the Griffins in the AHL.

The Swedish defenseman is still learning to adapt to the AHL style of play compared to the European ice.

As he's mentioned, a lot of the play in America features the dump-and-chase style of play and glass-and-out plays.

But, for now, he gets some recognition for his excellence of play in Sweden.
