The young defenseman recently signed a lucrative seven-year contract worth $8.55 million per season but will miss the first four days of training camp in Traverse City due to delays in obtaining his visa in Germany.
Coach Derek Lalonde stated that the plan is for Seider to start participating in practice on Tuesday. The Red Wings will wrap up camp with a Red and White scrimmage on Sunday at 2 p.m., livestreamed on detroitredwings.com. Following that, the team will return to Little Caesars Arena for two days of practices before starting the preseason on Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Despite missing some training camp, Seider is still expected to play in at least a few preseason games. Lalonde emphasized the significance of the early training camp intensity, pointing out that it helps establish a physical workload for the entire season. This means Seider will have some catching up, but the eager coaching staff is prepared to assist him in the adjustment process.
In contrast, Lucas Raymond and Jonatan Berggren have not missed any training camp time. Raymond signed an eight-year deal with an average annual value of $8.075 million, while Berggren signed a one-year contract at $825,000. Their presence at camp will provide the team with valuable momentum heading into the season.
