Elliotte Friedman hinted at a potential Dylan Larkin trade in a new report about a trade with the Vancouver Canucks involving Quinn Hughes.
There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the Vancouver Canucks in the past year. After the whole JT Miller-Elias Pettersson debacle, fans hoped to see the team bounce back and gain momentum this year, but it hasn't happened.
Currently seventh in the Central Division with a 10-14-3 record, the Canucks haven't hidden their intentions of trading some players away. The President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford confirmed it in a recent intervention.
Per Elliotte Friedman:
"According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that - in an effort to get younger - they are willing to listen to offers on 'veteran players.'"
Quinn Hughes Linked To The Detroit Red Wings By Elliotte Friedman
In a recent podcast intervention, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Red Wings would be legitimate contenders to get Hughes on the trade market, as they have the assets to acquire him and the cap space to sign him.
However, it would cost a lot. Friedman mentioned the Wings' center depth, which suggests that a guy like Dylan Larkin could end up leaving Detroit in a trade for Quinn Hughes:
"Can you see [Yzerman] not being interested in Quinn Hughes? Can you see Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? So I think they're very legit, and Detroit has centers...and I'm not talking about the depth guys."
Friedman specifically stated not a depth center, meaning a top-line guy, A.K.A. Larkin.
Acquiring a player like Hughes wouldn't be cheap, and Larkin could be enough, even too much considering the Canucks captain's recent controversial efforts in a game:
With another season left on his contract, it wouldn't be surprising to see Hughes leave Vancouver soon, and even if the New Jersey Devils are likely at the top of his preferred destinations list, the Wings could be enticing to him also.
But for the cost of Larkin, we can only hope Steve Yzerman's out.
