NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman furthers reports of Quinn Hughes to the Detroit Red Wings

The former 7th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft has been linked to the Red Wings once again, as the Canucks have vowed to listen to offers on all veteran players.
According to Elliotte Friedman, he thinks the Detroit Red Wings could be a candidate to acquire him with their ample amount of assets and cap space that Steve Yzerman has accumulated.
"Can you see [Steve Yzerman] not being interested in Quinn Hughes? Can you see Quinn Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? I think they're very legit, and Detroit has centers, and centers have been playing in the NHL. I'm not talking about the depth guys. I think Detroit is a team to watch. One thing that they've made very clear in Vancouver is they have to get another center. They need somebody to play behind Elias Pettersson. Their best chance to do it is if they end up trading Hughes. So, if that happens, I'm looking at teams that have a No. 2 center that can play with Pettersson, and Detroit has one of those guys."
The Canucks defenseman would be a huge upgrade to a faltering Red Wings blueline, with 455 games played of experience in the NHL with Vancouver.
In that time frame, he's scored 431 points (61-370) and won the James Norris Trophy at the end of the 2023-24 NHL season.
If the Red Wings are capable of pulling this off, they would fortify their blue line for the next decade to come.
Though it might be costly, as we've reported in the past, it may take sending Axel Sandin-Pellikka to acquire Quinn Hughes.
