A former Detroit Red Wings player has officially signed a professional tryout with a conference rival organization.
Elliotte Friedman reported during the weekend that Robby Fabbri was training in Windsor as he looked to return to the NHL after failing to capitalize on a PTO opportunity in training camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization:
"I got a note about Robby Fabbri - skating with OHL Windsor after a preseason PTO with Pittsburgh.
18 goals two years ago in DET, sounds like he's getting closer to an NHL return."

There have been a lot of rumors recently linking Fabbri back to Detroit, but it's not what will happen.
Indeed, in a new development, we learned that Fabbri signed a PTO with the Charlotte Checkers, the Florida Panthers' AHL affiliate team:
The 29-year-old forward took part in 44 games last season with the Anaheim Ducks, where he scored 16 points, including eight goals.
The Ontario native played in 442 games for the Ducks, St. Louis Blues, and Detroit Red Wings, where he scored 201 points, including 106 goals.
The Blues' 21st overall pick in 2014 notably won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.
Fans are eager to see if he'll get another shot in the NHL soon. To do so, he'll need to impress the right people at the right time, and further injuries would need to strike the Panthers' lineup in the coming months.
The player should wear the uniform in a game for the first time on December 5th against the Rochester Americans.
Stay tuned for further updates on Fabbri.
