On Tuesday, the Red Wings' 36-year-old UFA goaltender, James Reimer, signed a one-year, two-way, $1 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Reimer brings a veteran presence to a Sabres goalie room that needs his experience with their young talents. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, 25, and Devon Levi, 22, are projected to be the two main goalies. With Reimer, Buffalo gains a mentor capable of playing at the NHL and AHL levels.
During his tenure with the Red Wings, Reimer played in 25 games, starting 20, and had an 11-8-2 record. He posted a 3.11 goals against average and a .904 save percentage. He was a reliable and dependable presence, particularly in a season marked by injuries. He played his 500th career game in the season's final weeks, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team that originally drafted him, to keep the Red Wings' playoff hopes alive.
Now, Reimer will join a Sabres team in a similar rebuilding phase as Detroit, with a chance to play more hockey at 36.
