Former NHL defenseman Marek Zidlicky, who played briefly for the Detroit Red Wings, may be poised to start an NHL coaching career.

Marek Zidlicky has been an assistant coach with the Czech national team, helping them win the IIHF World Championship in Prague. His contract with the Czech team expired this summer, and while he's been offered a multi-year extension that includes participation in the next Olympics, Marek Zidlicky hasn't committed.
Reports from Czechia suggest Marek Zidlicky is considering an offer from the New York Islanders, a team he ended his NHL playing career in 2015-16. Alois Hadamczik, head of Czech hockey, confirmed Marek Zidlicky received an offer from the Islanders but hasn't decided. This potential move would see Marek Zidlicky join the staff of New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy, a longtime rival of the Detroit Red Wings.
Marek Zidlicky joined the Detroit Red Wings in a March 2015 trade from the New Jersey Devils. He contributed 11 points in 21 games and played in six playoff games. If Marek Zidlicky opts for an NHL coaching role, it would be a significant step in his career, bringing his extensive experience from both the NHL and international play to a new coaching chapter.
