The Detroit Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, unexpectedly called out several young players within the organization, and it's shocking.
The Detroit Red Wings are in desperate need to take advantage of this part of the National Hockey League's offseason, as this portion of the year gives the organization the opportunity to take matters head-on regarding their ongoing rebuild.
Whether that be acquiring or discarding players, this Original Six franchise is in dire need of making some changes in order to ensure a successful future.
Or so we thought.
As new insight has unfolded by the organization's general manager, Steve Yzerman, claiming if everyone is willing, he believes the Detroit Red Wings roster has what it takes and that he doesn't need to acquire free agents.

A recent report was unveiled by a reporter with The Athletic, revealing that if the Detroit Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, is unable to make another major addition this offseason, he believes his team has what it takes if they're willing to step up.
«If we can't do anything, maybe we get better simply by: Marco (Kasper) takes another step, Simon (Edvinsson) takes another step, Albert (Johansson) takes another step,» Yzerman said. «Maybe one of these young guys that played in GR last year, whoever it is, takes another step and goes on our team. I'm going to keep trying. We will keep trying. But the worst thing I can do is make a move out of desperation or panic, and move our young players out here (in a deal) that doesn't make us any better.»
This is similar to the NHL trade deadline, where Yzerman called out Dylan Larkin and others for needing to 'take a step up', rather than acquiring his captain some supporting talent.
