The Montreal Canadiens have found out what the Detroit Red Wings already knew about their former 1st-round pick, Joe Veleno.
The Detroit Red Wings selected forward Joe Veleno 30th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
He arrived in Hockeytown to much fanfare, but his own play wouldn't be able to hold up to the man, myth, and legend they created before he showed up.
Veleno played 5 years and 288 games in Detroit, a big enough sample size to get an idea of who he was as a player.
In that time frame, it became apparent that he wasn't NHL-caliber, scoring only 74 points (35-39).
Steve Yzerman would have to trade him later down the road to the Blackhawks for goaltender Petr Mrazek and center Craig Smith.
He's played for the Chicago Blackhawks for 18 games and would later be traded to the Seattle Kraken in a one-for-one trade for Andre Burakovsky. It's obvious who won that one.
The Kraken ended his stint there by placing him on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
The Montreal Canadiens Find Out How Disappointing Forward Joe Veleno Is
The Quebec-born forward was given a chance this season to play for his hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens, and he's been a disappointment.
In 16 games, he's struggling, producing 1 point (1 G) and a -7 rating on the ice.
The former 1st-round pick won't be around for long under Martin St. Louis's watch, as it appears the forward is struggling yet again elsewhere in the NHL.
The Canadiens signed Veleno to a one-year deal with a $900K AAV (average annual value).
It appears that he may be destined for the Laval Rocket if production doesn't pick up for the Montreal-born forward.
The 6-foot-1 forward scored 17 points in 74 games split between the Red Wings and Blackhawks.
